James Morton is a professional drummer with a career spanning 40+ years.
He was born and raised in Houston, Texas, where as part of the teenage band The Dream Machine he was signed to Decca Records while in high school, resulting in tours opening up for the Who and Paul Revere & the Raiders.
Today he lives in San Diego, California with his wife Lucy. Having performed with several notable artists in the jazz and rock fields, he continues to perform in a variety of venues as well as teach drum set and the popular History Of Rock ‘n’ Roll course at Grossmont College. He has written for Mel Bay Publications since 1980, and has over a dozen books to his credit. Through the years he has also contributed to Modern Drummer Magazine and other publications, as well as transcribed hundreds of drum charts for students that are now available as part of the drum sheet music collection at ClassicRockDrumCharts.com.
